Volkswagen unveiled the specifics of an upcoming all-electric car on Wednesday that will retail for under 25,000 euros. This move is a part of the German automaker's effort to have 80 per cent of its passenger brand's sales in Europe come from all-electric vehicles by 2030.

The vehicle will be the first on Volkswagen's modular electric platform to feature a front-wheel drive and will have design cues from the original Golf, the automaker said in a statement. It will go on sale in Europe by 2025 and have a range of 450 kilometres.

With a top speed of 160 km/h, the battery will charge from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in around 20 minutes.

Without revealing any other information, the automaker also revealed that they are developing a second electric vehicle that would cost under 20,000 euros.
