Walkaround: Tata Nexon EV Max Dark: The Dark Knight?

The Dark edition of the Nexon EV Max gets a 10.25-inch touchscreen, biggest in the segment

Like all other models, Indian carmaker, Tata Motors recently introduced the Dark theme to its long-range electric car, Nexon EV Max, which was launched almost a year ago. The company has sold over 50,000 units of the Nexon EV since its launch. We took a complete walkaround of the car to tell you all about it.

The new Nexon EV Max Dark is available in two trims - XZ+ LUX and XZ+ LUX with a 7.2 kW AC fast charger for customers across the country.

While all previous editions of the Nexon like Red Dark, Kaziranga and Jet included only a few cosmetic updates, the Dark edition of the Nexon EV Max gets a few feature additions too. But before we tell you what’s new, let’s quickly take a look at the exteriors.

Exteriors

Tata Nexon EV Max Dark adorns the dark theme elements on the inside and the outside like any other Dark edition model by the company. You get the signature Midnight Black body colour with the 16-inch Charcoal Grey alloy wheels, and Satin Black Humanity Line under the windows and grille.

The projector headlamps with tri-arrow DRLs and tri-arrow signature LED tail lamps are finished in blue. There is an exclusive #Dark mascot on Fender along with the EV badging on the front & the rear. The presence of the shark fin antenna and roof rails on the exterior enhances the overall bold stance of the car.

Interiors

As you enter the cabin of the Tata Nexon EV Max Dark, the major change you will notice is the new upgraded dashboard mounted infotainment system. The new touchscreen is now amongst the biggest in the segment at 10.25-inches. 

Complementing the dark ethos, in the interior, you will get the jewelled control knob, glossy piano black dashboard with a signature tri-arrow pattern, the leatherette-wrapped steering wheel with EV blue stitches, dark-themed leatherette door trims with tri-arrow perforations, dark-themed leatherette seat upholstery with tri-arrow perforations & EV blue highlight stitchesFeatures

The Dark edition has got some of the most anticipated upgrades. The Nexon EV Max Dark is now enhanced with a superior high-tech infotainment upgrade. It is the first in the Nexon lineup to boast the 26.03 cm (10.25 inch) touchscreen Infotainment system by HARMAN, a High-Definition rear view camera, voice assistant in 6 regional languages, 180+ voice commands in six languages (English, Hindi, Bengali Tamil, Telugu, Marathi) and a new User Interface.

The Electric Engine

The engine remains the same as the other variants, much hasn’t been changed under the hood, well it didn’t need it either. You get a 40.5kWh battery that churns out 143hp and 250Nm of torque. We get three drive modes- City, Eco and Sport. In the first two, however, power is restricted to 97hp and 170Nm.The Nexon EV Max Dark gets two chargers as standard – a 3.3kW and a 7.2kW charger. With a 3.3kW charge one can fully charge the battery in around 15 hours, while with a 7.2kW, it takes around 6.5 hours to charge from 0 to 100 per cent.

The Nexon EV Max Dark also supports up to 50kW DC fast charging, which can top up the battery from 0-80 per cent in around 56 minutes. The Nexon EV Max Dark has an ARAI-claimed range of 453km.

Price

Available in two trims, the Nexon EV Max Dark is priced at Rs 19.04 lakh (ex-showroom) for the XZ+ Lux and Rs 19.54 lakh (ex-showroom) for the XZ+ Lux with the 7.2kW charger. The company is offering an 8-year/1,00,000km warranty on the Nexon EV Max Dark edition’s battery.
