The Feature Loaded And Sporty - TVS Ntorq 125 Review

Sporty Scooters is a bit of oxymoron in India, Aprilia SR150 changed that, The Ntorq is TVS’s take on this segment. Aimed toward the youth, TVS NTORQ has engraved a racing soul inside it. We at BWAutoworld had a chance to drive the TVS Ntorq and here is what we feel.

NTorq is the first offering in the 125cc scooter segment from TVS. Through NTorq, the company wants to give you the feel of a sporty scooter. It comes with lots of segment first features including its very own SmartXonnect instrument cluster. TVS NTorq is clearly aimed at the youth and it is designed in a way that it stands apart from regular scooters crowd. We at BWAutoworld have driven it for a week and here is our report.

Design: The Ntorq has a very clear edge over its competitors in terms of design. It stands out amongst all other scooters this side of the Aprilia. The dual tone color and sharp design ensure its appearance like a New Age Sporty scooter. At the rear section, you can find Split grab rails, mudguard and faux vents with the T- shaped LED Taillight, which is evident that it is inspired by the afterburners of a stealth fighter jet. From the side, it looks sharp and edgy, which is enough to attract eyeballs to the scooter. NTorq has decent under-seat storage but it can’t hold a Full-size Helmet. A LED light and USB Jack ( for charging the phone) also there under the seat. The LED Light is the always-on type, eventually draining the battery, creating problems with the self-start. The exhaust of NTorq is loud with a throaty note making it sound sporty and different from regular scooter exhausts, The Exhaust note makes you feel you are riding a powerful sports scooter. The front section of the scooter holds a Halogen Headlamp with a Plus Shaped Daytime Running Light (DRL).

Digital Console: For connectivity, there is a SmartXonnect feature that enables The NTorq to connect with mobile phones. Currently, it only supports connection with Android. You have to press the mode button for 5 seconds for starting the pairing mode. Once you get your mobile device connected with the scooter, you will be able to use several unique features in the instrument cluster, such as Top Speed Recorder, Lap Timer, Phone Battery Strength Indicator, Last Parked Location Assist, and Average Speed Recorder, etc.

Due to safety issues, the company hasn’t provided the facility to attend a call, but by looking at the name of the caller on the console, you can decide how important the call is and can park the scooter and call back. Like all other TVS scooters, The Ntorq also sports a green/orange LED that tells you whether you are riding in economy mode or sports mode. There are mainly 2 modes in digital console, one is street mode and another is sports mode. Alas! These modes don’t affect the power of the engine. During our review, we faced an issue with on-screen navigation several times but this could be due to the mobile network. Other features in the console are really useful and not all gimmicky.

Power and Handling: TVS Ntorq is powered by 124.79cc, single-cylinder, 4-stroke, 3-valve, air-cooled SOHC engine. It makes 9.4 PS of power and 10.5 Nm of torque, which makes it a powerful scooter in the 125cc segment. It comes with a 12-inch black gloss finished alloy wheels at the front and rear. The scooter is very smooth during riding at 60-70 kmph and if you go above 80 kmph, you may feel little vibrations at footsteps. It can reach 0-60kmph speed in just 8 seconds.

The Ride quality of the TVS NTorq is very plush, considering the sporty character of the scooter, this came as a pleasant surprise. The balance and grip of the scooter at higher speeds are great. It is capable of keeping you in an upright position even at higher speeds due to its kerb weight of 116Kg. You will feel confident while taking sharp turns as the NTorq offers amazing grip and stability over roads. We are not inciting you to over speed though, but we managed to get the top speed of more than 100Kmph in a controlled environment. We drove it on highways as well as moderate traffic situations and the Ntorq gave us the mileage of 40kmpl.

Verdict: TVS NTorq’s Powerful Engine, Disc Brake, appealing looks and especially its digital instrument cluster makes it a great choice amongst the 125cc Scooters. Through NTorq, TVS aims to target the millennial, who don’t want to settle for an ordinary scooter. Ntorq offers a lot to the buyer, New Age design, powerful motor, plush ride and throaty exhaust note along with connected features for techy inside you.

The TVS Ntorq competes with Aprilia SR125, Honda Grazia and Suzuki Access 125. TVS has priced the Ntorq at Rs.58,252 (Ex-Showroom, Delhi) and the top end variant with Disc Brakes is priced at Rs. 59,900 (Ex-Showroom, Delhi). If you are in the market for a sporty scooter with good power and features TVS Ntorq makes a solid case for itself.
